column, we have been communicating with you about, and keeping you abreast with,
the events and the happenings that take place at the CITC. The events that have
taken place from the previous issue of the Income Tax Review, up to 10th March
2006, as also some of the important future events, are as under

Past Events
1.
29th Residential Refresher Course
29th
Residential Refresher Course organised by Residential Refresher Course
Committee from 15th February, 2006 to 18th February, 2006 at Ramoji Film
City, Hyderabad inaugurated by P. Venkatrama Reddy, Hon'ble Justice, Supreme
Court (Retd.). The course was successfully completed. Participants have took
active part in RRC. They enjoyed the events during their stay at Hyderabad.
2. Study
Circle Meeting
The Tenth Study
Circle Meeting for the year 2005-06 was held on February 23, 2006, on the
subject “Penalties u/ss. 271(1)© 271D & 271E ) of Income-tax Act, 1961 –
Some Issues”, where Shri K. Shivaram Advocate has chaired the meeting and
Shri Sunil M. Lala Advocate led the discussion. The meeting was very well
attended.
3. Two Full
days Workshop on Drafting of Various Deeds and Documents
The Allied Laws
Committee jointly with Sales Tax Practitioners’ Association of Maharashtra (STPAM)
has organised Two Full Days Workshop on “Drafting of Various Deeds and
Documents” on February 24, 2006 and February 25, 2006 at Hotel West End, New
Marine Lines, Mumbai – 400 020. where participants took active part in the
seminar. Booklet on Drafting of Deeds and Documents were also been
distributed.
4. Study
Group Meeting
The last
meeting of the Study Group for the year 2005-06 was held on February 27,
2006, where C.A. Pradip N. Kapasi , led discussion on Recent Case Laws. The
discussion was very lively.
5. Public
Meeting on “Union Budget – 2006”
Direct Taxes
Committee has organised a public meeting on “Union Budget – 2006” Jointly
with Forum of Free Enterprise, Investors Welfare Education Association,
Lions Club international Dist. 323A2, Ghatkopar CPE Study Circle – WIRC and
other organisations on Sunday, March 5, 2006 from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at
B.L.G. Auditorium, New SNDT College-A/C Auditorium, Hansoti Lane Naka, Cama
Lane, Ghatkopar (West), Mumbai – 400 086. C.A. Rajan Vora C.A. Hitesh
Gajaria and Shri Devan Sangoi delivered the lecture and explained the
amendments. 300 participants attended this meeting.

Direct Taxes
Committee has organised half day seminar on Finance Bill, 2006 jointly with
WIRC of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India on Saturday, March
11, 2006 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at M. C. Ghia Hall, 18/20, K. Dubhash
Marg, Rampart Row, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai – 400 023. Fees for the seminar is Rs.

Indirect Taxes
Committee has organised a lecture meeting on Thursday, March 14,.2006, at
Walchand Hirachand Hall, Indian Merchants Chamber, Churchgate, Mumbai on the
subject “Indirect Taxes – Finance Bill, 2006 where Eminent faculty from the
field of Indirect Taxes including Service Tax will be the Speaker. For

seminar on “Tax Deduction at Source/Tax Collection at Source”, Reassessment
and Recovery Proceedings”
Education
Committee has organised a Full Day Seminar on “Tax Deduction at Source/Tax
Collection at Source” on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at M.C. Ghia Hall, Rampart
Row, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai-400 023. Fees for the seminar is Rs. 750/- for

Awareness Series Meeting
Public And Media Relations Committee has
organised an interactive session with Mrs. Aneeta Madhok Dean –
Organisational behaviour – NMIS on the subject “Improving Your Interpersonal
Relations with people”. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, 21st March,
2006 at CITC Conference Hall, 3, Rewa Chambers, Gr. Floor 31, New Marine

6. Indirect Taxes Meeting
Indirect Taxes Committee has organised a
Study Circle Meeting on Friday, 24th, March 2006, at SNDT Conference Room,
Gr. Floor, New Marine Lines, Mumbai – 400 020. On the subject SEBI – DIP
Guidelines Law on Domestic Fund Rasing and Law of Public Offering”. Advocate
Manish Desai, Partner of Paras Kuhad & Associates, Advocates is the speaker

7. Study Group Meeting
Study Circle & Study Group Committee has

8. Seminar on “Valuation of Goods under
Central Excise and Custom and Controversies under Service Tax”
Indirect
Taxes Committee Jointly with Central Excise & Service Appellate Tribunal Bar
Association has organised a Seminar on “Valuation of Goods under Central
Excise and Custom and Controversies under Service Tax” on Saturday, April
15, 2006 from 9.00 a.m. to 5 p.m. at M. C. Ghia Hall. Fees for the seminar
is Rs. 750/- for members and Rs. 900/- for non-members (including of course
material, breakfast, lunch, snacks and tea). The Topic is (1) Valuation
Under Excise & Customs and (2) Controversies under Service Tax. Experts in
the respective field is the speaker in the seminar.
