Through this column, we have been communicating with you about, and keeping you abreast with, the events and the happenings that take place at the CITC. The events that have taken place from the previous issue of the Income Tax Review, up to 10th January, 2006, as also some of the important future events, are as under –

  1. Past Events
  1. Self Awareness Series Meeting
    Public and Media Relations Committee organised Self Awareness Series Meeting. The meeting was scheduled on December 14, 2005 where Dr. Jawahar Panjwani, Orthopaedic Surgeon, gave a talk on “My back is killing me”. The meeting evoked good response from the members. Dr. Panjwani’s presentation on backache and problems related to the spinal column was very professional and interesting. Members present took advantage of the question-answer session to get information on back related problems faced by them mainly due to the sedentary nature of work.
     
  2. Lecture Meeting on “Securities Transaction Tax -– Accounting and Tax Issues"
    Direct Taxes Committee organised a Lecture Meeting on “Securities Transaction Tax - Accounting and Tax Issues” on December 15, 2005, where Shri Nayan Mehta, Vice-President, National Stock Exchange, gave key note address and Shri Bhavesh Vora, Chartered Accountant, addressed the participants. The lecture was very well attended and got enthusiastic response from the participants.
     
  3. Lecture Meeting – Limited Liability Partnerships
    Education Committee jointly with Indirect Tax Committee organised a Lecture Meeting – 'Limited Liability Partnerships” on December 16, 2005, where Shri Girish Dave, Solicitor and Advocate, delivered a lecture on the above subject. The participants found the proceedings educative and very useful.
     
  4. Indirect Taxes Meeting
    Indirect Taxes Committee organised a Study Circle Meeting which was held on December 21, 2005, where Shri T. Gunasekharan, Advocate, led the discussion on the subject “Cenvat Credit Rules”. The discussion was lively and informative.
     
  5. Study Circle Meeting
    The Eighth Study Circle Meeting for the year 2005-06 was held on December 22, 2005, on the subject “Section 80-IB(10) of Income Tax 1961 - Some Issues”, where Shri Kishor B. Karia, Chartered Accountant, chaired the meeting and Shri Mahesh P. Sarda, Chartered Accountant, led the discussion. The meeting was very well attended.
     
  6. Study Group Meeting
    The Tenth Study Group Meeting for the year 2005-06 was held on December 29, 2005, where Shri Rajan Vora, Chartered Accountant, led discussion on Recent Case Laws. The discussion was very lively
     
  7. Lecture Meeting on “Amendments relating to Sec 80hhc and Implications thereof”
    Direct Taxes Committee organised a Lecture Meeting on “Amendments Relating to Section 80 HHC” on January 9, 2006, where Shri Rajan Vora, Chartered Accountant, addressed the participants. The lecture meeting got very good response with 240 participants. The Chamber was first to organise meeting on above amendments.

  1. Lecture Meeting on “Intricacies of Hindu Succession Act and the Recent Important Amendment”
    Allied Laws Committee has organised a Lecture Meeting on “Intricacies of Hindu Succession Act and the Recent Important Amendment” on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Babubhai Chinai Committee Room, 2nd Floor, IMC, Churchgate, Mumbai – 400 020, where Shri V. H Patil is Chairman and
    Shri Vipul Joshi is Speaker of this Meeting. Fees for the lecture Meeting is Rs. 50/- for members & Rs. 75/- for Non-Members. For further details, refer January 2006 issue of the CITC News.
     
  2. Indirect Taxes Meeting
    Indirect Taxes Committee has organised a Study Circle Meeting on January 30, 2006, at SNDT Conference Hall, Ground Floor, New Marine Lines, Mumbai- 400 020 on the subject “Recent Notification, Case Laws & Updations on Service Tax, Excise & Customs Laws”.
     
  3. Amita Memorial Lecture
    The members of the CITC are cordially invited to a Lecture Meeting under the auspices of the Amita Memorial Trust, jointly with BCAS to be held on Friday, February 3, 2006. For the further details, please refer January 2006 issue of CITC News.
     
  4. “Friendship Cup – Day and Night Cricket Tournament”
    Public and Media Relations Committee, jointly with AIFTP (WZ), BCAS, STPAM, and WIRC of ICAI, has organised a Day and Night Cricket Tournament on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Police Gymkhana Ground, Marine Drive, Mumbai - 400 002 between 9.00 a.m. and 11.00 p.m. For further details,

  5. 29th Residential Refresher Course
    Residential Refresher Course Committee has organised 29th Residential Refresher Course from February 15, 2006 to February 18, 2006 at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The details of the Course are given at our website: www.citcindia.org as well as in the January 2006 issue of the CITC News.
     
  6. Two Full Days Workshop on Drafting of Various Deeds and Documents
    The Allied Laws Committee jointly with Sales Tax Practitioners’ Association of Maharashtra (STPAM) has organised Two Full Days Workshop on “Drafting of various Deeds and Documents” on February 24, 2006 and February 25, 2006 at Hotel West End, New Marine Lines, Mumbai – 400 020.   7. Full Day Seminar on “Assessment, Reassessment and Recovery Proceedings”
    Direct Taxes Committee has organised a Full Day Seminar on “Assessment, Reassessment and Recovery Proceedings” on Saturday, February 25, 2006 from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm at Hotel City Point, Dadar TT Circle, Dadar. Fees for the seminar is Rs. 600/- (inclusive of material, breakfast, lunch & snacks). Due to unavoidable reasons the seminar has been rescheduled from 28-1-2006 to 25-2-2006.   8. Full Day Seminar on “Tax Deduction at Source/Tax Collection at Source”
    Education Committee has organised a Full Day Seminar on “Tax Deduction at Source/Tax Collection at Source” on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at M. C. Ghia Hall, Rampart Row, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai – 400 023.
